Rolling through Gettysburg

The next stop of the Listening Wall tour was Staunton, VA. It’s one of my favorite places now! If you haven’t been yet, you should go because it’s a wonderful place.

The scenery is beautiful the people are nice, and the buildings have that old American charm to them.

In the heart of downtown Staunton is Shenandoah pizza which won the Best of Virginia for their pizza in 2013. We shared a show at Shenandoah Pizza with Pete Stallings (who plays with the amazing Sally Rose Band). Pete opened with a great foot stompin’ set that night and when Jim and I got up to play, we had so much fun creating music together. It was one of the best shows we’ve had. It was a chill atmosphere and the pizza goers were so sweet, funny, and energetic. They had a few birthday parties going on so we even got to sing happy birthday to some fellas. Good musical memories were made there for sure!

The next stop on the tour was Pennsylvania. While driving to our destination, I was looking out the window noticing the gorgeous forest that was around us. I had this feeling that it was really old. I know, I know, you are probably thinking “Kathryn, of course a forest is old. Duh.” Well…I don’t know how to describe it other than writing that this historic essence was all around us. So, of course we dove right through it. (Ha!) Later we came to find out that we rolled through Gettysburg and didn’t even realize it. The history was so thick that we could have scraped it off the tires! So, folks the moral of that story is…if it looks old and historic, it probably is. (Except for some “antiques”. Buyers beware.)

Rollin’ through Gettysburg

The next day we sang at a church in Pennsylvania (Bethel United Church of Christ).  Jim’s friend LouAnn was retiring and she asked us to sing on her last Sunday there. What a blessing it was to honor her and her ministry through song. She is a lovely person who could make anyone feel at home. By the way, Jerry (her husband) had this AMAZING telescope! For those who don’t know me, I am a HUGE space nerd. Well, it’s not like I know all the names of everything but I just really love looking at the night sky and seeing planets and stars just…hanging out! It’s mind blowing.

Jerry and Me. Yes folks, that’s a 10 inch telescope! Thanks Jim for taking the pic.

There is so much more to share with you but stay tuned for more. Let me leave you with this parting question: What’s your favorite place to go in America?

Till next time,

Kathryn from The Listening Wall
